<HTML>The article rightly points out that a detonation of the conventional explosives on board the Kursk is possible (though not likely). This might possibly cause the release of nuclear materials if the explosion damages the reactor or other nuclear weapons (if any were carried).

Nuclear explosives are complex mechanisms that require a very precise and intricate process to detonate - as well as having numerous built in fail safe devices to prevent accidental explosion.

The chances of an accidental nuclear explosion are nil.. </HTML>
