Hi, I think it was the name given to boats in the Biscay ports, including the schnorkel fitted U-boats,for ops in the English Channel, against the Allied landings. They, sailed June 6th, and were to lay off Brest and bordeaux, keeping at sea, as not to be trapped in port, and to be nearer the Channel for a faster response. However, allied air craft prevented any serious attacks from them. U 212,having sailed from La Pallice on June 6th, had been damaged and returned, then repaired, sailed June 22nd, as she was one of four boats on a special supply task, she was to have supplied, the cut off Cherbourg with anti-tank and machine gun ammo, but the harbour entrance was blocked and they were recalled on the 23rd.
