Hi David, HMS Rorqual(N74) Lt Napier was on mine laying operation FD34, where she laid 50 mines off La Rochelle, safely returning to Gibraltar. The returning, surfaced U 109,[OblzS Siegfried Keller] spotted a submarine in the 'hazy' distance, on calling is C/O [Bleichrodt] to the tower, the submarine had moved away into the haze, Bleichrodt, not convinced took no action, U 109 continued her return.
