Hi Brian and Klaus-Peter

Thank you both for the info. On 30 Jun, 1941, U-371 was attacked twice - the first attack was carried out by the Blenheim of MetFlt and later that day they reported an attack by a Sunderland, which was in fact a Beaufort of 217 Sqn. I added both air attacks to our database.

Interesting is the decision of the U-boat Assessment Committee for this attack by Wykeham-Martin: It is noted that the bombs were reported to have fallen 30 yards on the starboard bow of the U-boat, which is well outside the damage radius of the 250lb A/S bomb. The attack is assessed as “No damage”.

I also added the two attacks by Blenheim/A on U-563 and U-565 to our database. The U-boat Assessment Committee believed that both attacks were carried out on the same U-boat and judged the report of the aircrew to be too optimistic as there was no evidence of severe damage and assessed the case as “Probably slightly damaged”.

Best regards
Rainer
