I wonder if someone would be able to help me with information about the last patrol of U-548. The boat was sent in March, 1945,to operate off the US coast but was sunk on 19 April, 1945 southeast of Halifax. I wanted to know where specifically it was supposed to operate off the US coast. In Kenneth Wynn's book U-boat Operations of the Second World War, vol. 2, he states the U-548 was ordered to the Gulf of Maine on 12 April, 1945, a week before it was sunk. I wondered where Mr. Wynn found this 12 April order? I have searched in the decrypted Ultra messages sent to U-boats in the US National Archives but have never found any such order to U-548 on that date. Does anyone know of another original source that I am not aware of where Mr. Wynn might have found this information? Thank you very much for your help. I can be emailed at paul.branch@ncdenr.gov.
