Hi all,
Like Prbranch, I am looking for more info on the U-548. U-boat.net and Kenneth Wynns book seem to say that it was sunk south east of Halifax. But one of my sources says that the U-548 was an operational loss from May 19, 1945 (which seems to be a mistake, as the war ended almost two weeks before- and that mistake could mean the rest of this is also false) in the Gulf of Maine, possibly sunk by USN forces with 59 dead and no survivors.

Curious to see if there are any solid records of the sinking, and what it was sent to the US coast for.

Thanks,
Paul Woodworth

(the source I mention was David Millers 'U-Boats The illustrated History of the Raiders of the Deep', which is given a 3.5 star rating in the books review on U-boat.net)
