<HTML>Acoording to \"Neither Sharks nor Wolves\" by Timothy Mulligan (pg 13) the U-1206, on April 13, 1945 a botched operation of the toilet so flooded the boat with salt water that it seeped into the battery, causing chlorine gas to fill the boat (salt water, when mixed with the sulfuric acid of the batteries, creates deadly chlorine gas).

The boat was surfaced to air it out, attacked and damaged by allied air, and the crew abandoned ship. They paddled to the shore of Scotland, only a short distance away. 3 crew perished in the sinking. </HTML>
