PNG Submarine wreck discovery, U-196?

The ABC (Australia) News website is today reporting the wreck of a submarine has been discovered by Australian Navy clearance divers in Simpson Harbour on the Far East North Coast of Papua New Guinea. While there are no details yet of what nationality the wreck is, U-196 immediately comes to mind. The Various claims 0ver the past 10 years that 196 was scuttled off the North Coast of New Zealand have failed to produce any substantiated proof. Any members with contacts in PNG might keep their ears open as the possibility that the PNG wreck is 196 (if it proved to the a U-Boat) is as plausible as any other explanation yet offered about its' fate.
