Hello Ron,

I do not know much about E-boat operations but can give you the following:
There were three E-boat flotillas operating in the Channel in September 1940:
1.S-Flottille (Kapitänleutnant Birnbacher, depot ship CARL PETERS) based at Rotterdam until 6 September when they sailed for Cherbourg (they returned to Rotterdam on 14 October).
Boats: S 18, 19 (damaged by mine on 28/8 near Calais), 20, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27, 28.
2.S-Flottille (Kapitänleutnant Petersen, depot ship TANGA, based at Ostend).
Boats: S 33, 30, 37 (1.Gruppe), 34, 55 (2.Gruppe), 36 (engine repairs).
3.S-Flottille (Kapitänleutnant Kenmade, depot ship ADOLF LÜDERITZ, arrived in Vlissingen on 10/9 and then to Rotterdam on 12/9).
Boats: S 1, 10, 11, 13, 54
ADOLF LÜDERITZ, S 1 and S 10 were damaged by air attacks on 11/9.
The list is probably be incomplete as German records of the period are sketchy at best, also S 54 is reported in all three flotillas at one time or another but this could be a typo in original documents. Also I am not absolutely sure if TANGA and CARL PETERS followed their flock to the Channel ports but it is probable unless another ship was substituted.

I hope this helps,

Platon
