Russian Convoys

I am researching my father's war record he was transferred to AA Defence of Merchant Shipping Tynemouth 24/03/1941 rank Gunner George J Smith. He was at sea from 04/04/1941 until 07/06/1945. He was on the Russian Convoys and then was posted to Bombay, India. I am having great difficulty finding his merchant navy records. I have his army records. It would be interesting to find out what ship or ships he was on. Can anyone out there help me
