Was the identity of "Wimble Willy" ever made? This was the contact made by USCGC Dione off Wimble Shoals in 1942. In one account, Captain David Oliver, USCG (Ret.) stated: "Whatever it was down there was the same length of a submarine, width of a submarine and it looked like a submarine. We were pretty sure we sank it. In fact it is still used as a fishing ground off Cape Hatteras. Divers have verified our claim."
