Germans ever consider target convoy escorts to denude the convoy and make pack attacks easier?

I think American submarines used this in the Pacific against late war convoys.

Then there was the case of the Harder and the multiple Down the Throat torpedo attack at IJN DDs rushing towards a purposely exposed periscope.
