The next sequence of photos were sent to me by Uwe Rottcher from Deutschland/Hannover/Langenhagen,with the intention of posting them here.

They cover U-boats U 565 and U 621; taken from his personal collection and obtained from a friend, Friedrich Schlimme who sailed on both U-boats.

The U-10 information comes from Uwe's personal collection.

I will post his info sequence starting with U 10, U 565 and U 621.

U 10 info follows:

The initial post of 14 April 2013 from U.R (Uwe Rottcher) regarding U 10 is as follows:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

I know the story of U-10.
Why?
The commander of U-10 Kurt Ahlers was a friend of mine.
We often discussed over coffee Kurt Ahlers war time experieces. After the war,
Kurt Ahlers was a lawyer in Hanover / Lower Saxony, Germany. He passed away
a few years ago.
The end of U-10 was determined during a shipyard period - there was heavy damage
in the battery compartment caused by battery acid and affected the hull adversely.
The only possible solution was scrapping. He told me that you could puncture the
inner hull with a screwdriver....

Regards U.R.
Hannover / Lower Saxony, Germany

There is a book by Wilhelm Schulz (Uber dem Nassen Abgrund/Mittler Verlag).

The dust cover of the book shows U-10 surfacing.

Story from picture:

The commander Kurt Ahlers is in the control room. He had sent his 1 in a dinghy
to photograph the emerging submarine.
The image (1939) was taken off Pillau during practice diving.
The photo on the cover of the book was supplied by the widow of William Schulz,
she obtained the photo from Kurt Ahlers.

Additional U 10 notes:

The last CO of U 10 was OL Kurt Ahlers who took command in February 1944 to 01
July 1944 at Danzig (Gdansk, Poland). On 30 July 1944 at Danzig (Gdansk, Poland),
U 10 was transferred out of the 21st Flotilla and was decommissioned on 01 August
1944 and was then authorised as a parts repository for other boats (the KTB says
cannabalised - ausgeschlachtet). Kurt Ahlers was then assigned to U 1201 on 02
July 1944. Kurt Ahlers passed away on 24 November 2007.
