Doenitz had two sons. Peter, the younger one died on U-954 when the boat was sunk with all hands in the Atlantic on May 19 1943.
Klaus, the older one died on his Birthday on May 13 1944, when he went out on a patrol with an S-boat, the S-141. He was 24 years old.
