Dear John,

Thanks.

However, please note that the list in Paterson's Appendix A is not the surrender from sea list per se (nor does it pretend to be).

Rather, it seems to be a list of the U-Boats which he says were at sea on 4 May when Donitz issued his "cease operations and return to Norway" signal. And this was prior to both the surrender documents.

And, by the way, whether the list is correct or not, I know not.

However, even that contains obvious errors. For instance, it includes the hoary old errors about U-244, U-255 and even U-532. None of which surrendered at the locations stated.

The number of U-Boats which surrendered at/from sea is 49. 2 after the first surrender in NW Germany on 5 May, and 47 after the final capitulation on 9 May.

And several of these are not included in Paterson's list.

Hope this helps.

Yours aye

Derek
