Dear John,
U-1232 had been decommissioned before it was captured in May 1945 in the US enclave in the British Zone.
The TNC listed it an "an unallocated submarine afloat", and it was therefore due to be sunk by 15 Feb 46.
However it sank in harbour due to bad weather before the US Navy could dispose of it, and it therefore had to be raised in order to meet the TNC recommendation.
Then, whilst being towed out of the Weser by the US Navy, the tow parted and the U-Boat sank of its own accord.
It therefore has no connecton with Operation Deadlight, which applied just to the U-Boats held in the UK by the Royal Navy.
Hope this helps.
Yours aye
Derek
