My thoughts on this....
Since the U 41 had just left for patrol on 7 November 1939 and the event in question happened on the 12th - The CO of U 41 had approximately 22 days left on his patrol and the extra 7(survivors) man complement added to the 48-56 man crew of U 41 was not a welcomed possibility for the next 20+ days.
Victims of U-Boat attacks were still treated differently in the early war years - U 35 landed survivors from the "Diamantis" at Dingle Bay, in neutral Ireland on 04 October 1939. CO Lott (U 35) was reprimanded for this action.
