Steve,

I think what was meant here was - "On 16 November the AFT stern TORPEDO STORAGE tube AND IT'S CONTENTS (torpedo) was torn off by heavy seas." The floating unit was then destroyed by gunfire from U-376 to prevent it (G7a) from falling into enemy hands.
