Hello,
First time user of this website.
I'm trying to obtain any information on the rescue of the crew of a Do18 flying boat by the U-30 in the North Sea on 28 March 1940. I'm hoping that there is perhaps an account of the rescue from the ship's logbook or KTB. Also looking for any contemporary accounts or published information of this event from the Navy side of this story. Also seeking the name and rank of the aircraft Bordfunker, named Rusch. Here is what I currently know:
"28 March 1940 North Sea Operations: 2./KüFlGr.906 Dornier Do18G (862). Ditched in North Sea north-west of Hörnum due to engine failure during search mission for Do18 of 2./KüFlGr.106 2.55 p.m. BO Lt zur See Hans Harald Ipach, FF Oberlt Elmer Blanke, BF [ ] Rusch, and BM Fw Hans Biegel all rescued by submarine U-30. Aircraft 8L+GK 100% write-off.
An unsuccessful search for the two overdue Do18s was made next day by eight He115s of 2./KüFlGr.506."
Any help would be appreciated.
