<HTML>Mike,
Ah no, not Ex Ex! Trained Ops Branch - skills as listed:
Dogsbody. Seaman. Boats crew ( later Coxswain ). Painter, decorator, skilled coffee and tea maker, general run ragged rating (GRRR)....
I was offered to re-muster into a more um \'dignified\' Branch - Comms - but decided that as I had started as a sailor, I wanted to stay as a sailor! It suited as I got to do all the interesting jobs like run the sea boat, gangway watch...and so forth!
Yes, okay on the GI and salute. Then, that\'s Army innit! Seriously, all I recall is hefting the old L1A1 7.62mm SLR - yes, I did me time on that venerable old piece of kit ( but trained on the .303 Lee Enfield...! ) and when shouted out - as in \'General Salute, Preeeee- sent - harms!\' - coming smartly to the position before being told ( after the event ) to either shoulder harms or that other position you used for marching with it tucked in - and can I remember what it was called? Usually the Voice belonged to the Chief or, on occasion, to some lowly ranker - but never under PO rate!
Nowadays they do a Dinky drill with that Dinky SA80...ha!
Aye,
John</HTML>
