I am the daughter of Robert W. Strecker who served on the SC 1360 for 30 months during WWII. I also have his diary that he kept during that time. Are you still interested in finding out about this ship?
Dad documented this ship from its commission August 20, 1943 until it returned at the end of the war to San Francisco harbor. I have copies of Data Sheets as well as crew member names and commanders. Some of the dates listed are Iwo Jima, Okinowa, Guam. At the end of the war my Dad was the only plank owner and by order of the CO steered the ship under the Golden Gate Bridge.
The ship was converted to a Landing Craft Control Amphibious Operations.
I am preparing to donate his diary to the Naval Heritage Center in Washington DC
Sincerely, Ruth Ann Strecker
