Question about V.80 test boat

Hello, Is the 'V' in V.80 the letter V, or does it represent the Roman numeral 5? In some published material I have seen that the Type V design was connected to Walter closed-cycle propulsion, but I have not seen any clear links tying the V.80 (or VB.60 and V.300, for that matter) directly to the projected Type V. If the 'V' is indeed a V and not related to Type 5, what did it stand for?

Can anyone assist? Thank you.
