good steel in Europe was a primary raw metal. Moreover a sunken submarine was a useful metals throve and some of her machinery could even be recycled. The defeated (Germany, Italy etc.) and also the \"winners\" (France, Yugoslavia etc.) were anyway quite unwealthy Countries and the marine wrecks were an asset to be exploited. Obviously the harbours were cleared firs, but savage business was quite profitable till the late fifties.
