Hi John!
Sorry for not being able to help you any further.
I had a closer look to the war diary and the name is either Petzak (the first letter was corrected one time).
I attach it here.

The problem with the crew lists on the web is that it is often not clear wether they are complete or not.
I found a Walter Patzak who died on U 722 on 27.03.1945. But it is only a very uncertain guess that there could be a typo in the war diary of U 123 and that it is the same man.
