Some things you should think about. The U-boot Archiv is a charity but is not supported by the German Government in any way - they are afraid to face their past, I think - so it has to be entirely self supporting. Any monies received must cover a multitude of things like upkeep of the building, heating lighting etc. Most of the helpers there are volunteers who, perhaps like Jak Showell, spend their own money on a trip their and for their accommodation.
Please remember that Herr Bredow is no longer a young man (he did serve in the last war) and sadly is not in the best of health.
Might I suggest you do one or both of two things?

A - you write directly to Jak Mallmann Showell with any queries you have - or perhaps call him?
B - you become a member of the U-boot Archiv.

I can supply information on both to you via email.

I do understand your concern about the 200-300$ you dont wish to loose - most of the worlds population work for a living and are not mega-rich.
