Hello Platon,
That is a great piece of information to have. There seems to be a lingering doubt that the P48 sunk there and then. Yes the report of surface oil I've read, but as a bluff, maybe. The Belgium wreck diver, Jean-Pierre Misson, said in his January 2018 article on finding 6 RN Sub's off Tabarka coastline with sonar scans, named a possible P48 amongst them after his self analysis. The two sets of coordinates on the Uboat-P48 page show it was slowly heading north-west. Did it make it down to near Tabarka and then hit a mine?
If it did sink off the Gulf then it is in 600 ft of water, but Mr Misson throws up an interesting unconfirmed find.
I would very much like to read the Italian report, contact in a PM.
Thank you very much, I appreciate the information.
Best Regards,
Chris.
