Hello all - late to the game here but this is a topic that I've pondered for awhile (not having any additional insight to provide here - sorry). I've been mapping the locations of all the ships that were sunk during the Second World War (results are here for you to peruse: [mapsterman.maps.arcgis.com] I've mapped about 15,000 ship sinkings and have another 5,000 without an accurate enough position.
A question to to those still in the chat - in contrast to u-boat positions, how accurate were Allied positions? How much did they rely on radio direction finding to verify their positions?
Also, any recommendations for reading material on navigation in the Second World War?
