Living conditions

<HTML>I have read many times the discussions of U-boat living conditions and can not quiet understand a couple of things. Was the conditions aboard American submarines better? Showers,heat/air condition, seperate bunks etc. If so, then why were the American boats more livable then the German boats. Or the Japaneese boats etc. ? Just can\'t figure it out.Thank you.</HTML>
