<HTML>Hi Clark

In the movie, the Captain´s advisor is a German Federal Navy (Bundesmarine)Commodore.

I don´t know the answer to your first question, but think that probably the Commodore reply was part of the screenplay.

The movie is based in the 1963 novel by Mark Rascovich and there is no such conversation on it ,as he is introduced as Commodore Wolfgang Schrepke, from DBM (Deutsches Bundes Marine) and Captain Finlander added:

\"Commodore Schrepke is an expert in ASW for NATO naval forces. ....
.....he was one of the Doenitz´s aces.As submarine commander he sank more than 200.000 tons of allied ships....
...Yes but I think it´s no convenient you publish this story. Most of our congressmen and their voters are very susceptible with foreigners serving in our ships, especially with the German ones.\"

(translated by me from the Spanish version, sorry for translation inaccuracies)

To your second question my answer is yes, I like both the movie and the novel.

Best Regards</HTML>
