I have just checked the book by Högel.
On page 54 it says when you see the emblem with which U-96 sailed, that it was blue. It says so on page 12 that horizontal stripes are used for emblems that had blue in the emblem.
Back then when I asked the question I didn't own the book yet, but now that I do, it easy to check.
Leaves me one question to ask: why isn't the blue colour not mentioned in the emblem-part of this website? There it only says green and red.
So who is right here: uboat.net or Högel?
