Hello, Pat. I'm afraid I don't have any info regarding the U-boat, but the movie was an excellent one and is one of my favorites. In the movie, the sub was from WW II rather than WW I (as it was in the book). I read the book after seeing the movie and found it to be excellent as well. Finally, I was able to purchase an "electronic" version of this movie through Amazon, and I continue to go back to it from time to time. (In my opinion, Frank Sinatra was a very good actor and he did a great job in his role, as did the other main players.)
