<HTML>They built a full mock up shell of the submarine (external only, no pressure hull), placed it in a real U-Boat pen and shot each pen one shot at a time. What I mean is, they filmed one pen with say, welding work being done, then they moved the mockup to the next pen, shot it with torpedos loading, then the next one, etc.

I am pretty sure I read this on the official Directors Cut Das Boot website.</HTML>
