<HTML>According to Gannon, "Operation Drumbeat," p.28, the Keroman pens were constructed by Organisation Todt, the constuction conglomerate run by Dr. Fritz Todt, Reichsminister of Construction. I am not certain where the name Keroman comes from. I think -- and someone please correct me if I am wrong -- it refers the geographic strip of land, Pointe de Keroman, where the bunkers are located.

Dr. Todt was certainly an unpopular fellow. His construction works conscripted thousands of french laborers under harsh conditions to construct the pens. Dr. Todt was also responsible for the construction of the 'Atlantic Wall' fortifications as well as the autobahnen.

There is a good discussion on this site of the pens. They were so well constructed that no allied bomb ever penetrated the 7 metre thick concrete.
