<HTML>An admirable benefit, I must say, Silversides being the 3rd top scoring US submarine by number of ships sunk, 5th by tonnage, and the top scorer in both categories among the surviving fleet boats. At that, it's probably little more than pure chance that she survived, since most of the museum boats became such not because of their fame or war record -- Lionfish, for instance, was never credited with sinking anything -- but because they were used as Reserve pierside training boats and were already there when the Navy decided it no longer needed them and the preservationists came forward to take over.
