K-19 / Juliett U-484 designation mystery solved

<HTML>This has been discussed here before, in this thread [uboat.net] for example.

Basically the issue is about the designation U-484 given to the K-81 sub that was used as K-19 in the movie.

I recently read an interview with the Finnish ex-owner of the sub and he said it was simply a text on a removable fake number plate that was put on the conning tower when the sub was on the surface, to mislead Nato surveillance. By the look of the plate the numbers were changed every now and then and at the time it was purchased, it just happened to have "U-484" on it.

Now I'm just wondering why the original real designation code is supposedly K-81 but the sub was referred to as K-77 in the interview...</HTML>
