<HTML>Tang was sunk by a normal torpedo, not an acoustic type. A Mark-18 electric, if I remember correctly. They had a problem with the rudders sticking, causing circular runs, which was what happened to Tang when she fired her last torpedo during a night surface attack. Most likely, had she been submerged, it would have passed over her stern instead of hitting it.
