I do recall that KRTESCHMAR, U-99, propbably as the most promenent skipper surviving the war was interviewed sevral times and that he spoke a very good English. It could make sense also regarding the time - frame, because in the fifties THE GOLDEN HORSSHOE, a book about Kretschmar was published.
