As we near the anniversary of the war's end, it is always so poignant to me that the commanders continued to carry out their duties when they had sure knowledge that once they made an attack, they were likely doomed. I understand that they could not have safely refused to go on patrol, but I wonder that all of them didn't become as blind as Admiral Nelson was at the Battle of Copenhagen

I guess depending on how far ahead the romper is, would the attacker be better served by waiting for the main body of the convoy rather than alerting them of the danger? Gerard
