Hello to all, just in case anyone was investigating it for me, I found the answer myself. U-490 had not been equipped with the intended transfer pump, at the time of its loss, to fulfil the underwater refuelling as desired. On return to Bordeaux, the pump was to be fitted. Regards Pete A

Hello to all, I hope that you may be able to help me with my query. The U-boat U-490 was apparently capable of, and her crew trained in, refuelling other U-boats as an undersea activity. From the limited information I have perused, this vessel would refuel only schnorkel-equipped boats. Would this mean that the diesel fuel flowed through the snorkel or a pipe attached to it, or
