Hi John This is probably U-40, does it have a "wappen"? All the type IX's (39-44) made their early patrols from WHV, so without a date it is difficult to make positive i.d. Perhaps Axel will know. Regards Nobby

Hello Have searched in vain for a definite list of all Type IX's which had rear deck 105 or 8.8 guns fitted at sometime in their careers. Have found a lot of conflicting views but not a complete list. Can someone point me in the right direction please! Regards Nobby

141. TYPE IID
Hi Can anyone help me with the type IID MAGNETIC COMPASS, housing forward of the tower? How many of the 16 type d's were fitted with this housing and when were they first fitted. The only foto I have seen is of the U-138 (which strangely has the guard rails on the bridge much lower than the others) and possibly the U-137! Is there anywhere or book which gives details of all the types IID
