My fathers ship was involved in rounding up the surrendered U-boats - Operation Pledge Operation Deadlight was agreed between the US, UK and the Russians. I would be interested to find out some more information regarding U-548. Prior to sinking HMCS Valleyfield U-548 fired a torpedo at HMS Hargood that missed. As the attack was a night and U-548 was not detected this only came to light subsequently from decoded German signals. I have put some more information on a website here -

Operation Pledge to collect the U-Boats A total of 116 U-Boats of all types were assembled, with 30 at Lisahally and 86 at Loch Ryan. Operation Deadlight was then to sink them .. although it didn't go to plan. Some pics my father took..

My father - Len Newson - served on a Captain Class Destroyer - HMS Hargood - from when it was commissioned in the US to when it was returned to the US at the end of the war. I have collected his photos and more information here - Always interested to find out more information.

My father was aboard HMS Hargood that escorted a flotilla of U-Boats from Wilhelmshaven to Lisahally. One of those U-Boats was U-3008 that was then covertly sent to the US Navy. More info and some photos here :

Hi, my father was aboard HMS Hargood that escorted U-Boats from Wilhelmshaven to Lisahally. The U-Boats in the flotilla were: U-3008, U-2356, U-2351, U-2341, U-2336 & U-883. I have scanned in his photos here.. Also a link to the report by the Captain is on the Links page.
