Maurice, The offical report from Chief Officer Hugh Thompson confirms that an elderly man died in his lifeboat on Thursday Feb 16 1940 approximately 5 miles (8 Kilometres) from Loophead, Co Clare, Ireland. He was buried at sea. He mentions that the cause of death was "Exposure". He also said that he had been in the water before getting in to the lifeboat and was wet all over when the

Mark, Thank you for the quick reply. You are correct, John O'Donoghue was one of four Irish crewmen who survived the sinking of the SS Langleeford on Feb 14 1940. John O'Donoghue (Cape Clear) & Joseph D Cormack (Dublin) landed in Glenderry,Kerry Head, Co Kerry,Ireland on Feb 17 1940. Michael Barry (Newry) & C Connelly (Cape Clear) landed in Fodry Bay, Ross, Co Clare,Irel
