I don't know if the site distinguishes all of the IX's configurations but the U-156 only had one platform. Other U-boats, U-42, 67, 106, 160, 171, 172 also had the single platform. I could send you a picture of the commissioning and the PBY bomb run. Stan

The U-156 was a IXA or IXB which had only the first platform. Pictures of her commissioning and in the one in her final moment taken from a PBY that dropped the depth charge show the single platform profile.

This may help somewhat. U-156 lost seaman Businger after a misfire of the 105 mm deck cannon. From the log book he was buried at sea at 6:30 pm on the 16 February 1942. The captain of U-156,Hartenstein "intoned the Lord's Prayer, the crew sang "I Had a Comrade" and Businger was "delivered to the sea with full military honors". This was after an attack on the L

Bonnie, I have a lot of information on the U-156. It was penned at Lorient, France and left to the Caribbean with 5 other U-boats on 19th January 1942 and attacked the Lago Oil & Transport Co. refinery on 16 February. There was no refueling.
