Hello there,
By chance, has anyone come across references to Chateau de la Massais? This was a Kriegsmarine station based about 5 km outside Rennes very close to the village of Guichen. It was possibly used as a listening station for U-boats and surface vessels to Allied merchant vessels working the Gibraltar to UK convoys.

many thanks for your reply, it`s much appreciated. What you have written is very useful and gives me a good background to the chateau/castle. A while back I wrote to the local authorities in Guichen, but replied that they didn`t know the history of the place!
I visited the place in August and can see that it was once a truly magnificent home - no wonder the Germans earmarked it

By chance, does anyone know any history concerning the Kriegsmarine listening/relay station at Guichen, France? The chateau is substantial in size with lots of outbuildings and sited in very large grounds.
The chateau is now derelict and boarded up.
