Morning
Does anyone have any good sources of information covering the meeting between Raeder, Donitz and Hitler at Wilhelmshaven on 28 September 1939?
Cheers

Good morning
Are the Marinestation and that at Sengwarden at the same location in Wilhelmshaven? I've seen officers serving at Sengwarden in 1938.

Afternoon
Does anyone know why Werner von Schmidt left U.40 after the first wave in Sept 1939 and didn't take command of a Uboat again until U.116 in April 1942?

7. 1WO for U.37
Good afternoon
Can anyone tell me who the 1WO for U.37 for her second war patrol in October 1939 was? I keep seeing references to two people:
Oblt. z. S. Asmus-Nicolai Clausen;
Oblt z. S. Ernst Bauer
Both appear viable from my research with both accredited in various references to service aboard the boat at that time. As a command boat for the 6th flotilla is it possible that she s

Good afternoon gentleman
Can someone please help me with the following queries?:
1) When we hear of SSS signals being picked up by intercept stations in Land's End, Valencia etc is there a source where I can find them all?
2) We have survivors reports from the sinking of British ships but are there any for French vesSels sunk? I imagine these would all, if recorded, have been lost o

Hi
No not dazzle patterns. I mean the process by which ships sailed in a zig zag pattern to evade uboats. There were a number of different patterns to follow I guess so that a uboat commander couldn't anticipate a turn

10. Zig Zag Patterns
Does anyone have any information on zig zag patterns used by the Royal Navy? Seems there were a lot of different patterns with different timings etc. I'm particularly interested in pattern No. 12

11. Time Zones
Gentleman
I'm finding it difficult in some circumstances to reconcile times listed in some docs to others. A ship could in theory use local time or the time of their home port. When comparing British and German documents in theory a time could be GMT, local time or MEZ which becomes confusing.
Did U.boat logs use MEZ always by convention or would they sometimes use local time?

14. B-Dienst
Hi guys
Anyone know if I can get hold of any copies of B-Dienst reports from 1939?
Specifically I'm looking for reports of a convoy leaving the Strait of Gibraltar which, according to the BdU, the B-Dienst fixed several times on 16th November 1939.
Cheers

Thanks Walter
That would fit. I take it they are in fact 'K' convoys with an S or F attached to denote slow or fast.

Hi Guys
Anyone know of any source of information for the French KS convoys? Ships involved, destinations, course, events etc.
I'm specifically interested in 27-KS bound from Oran/Casablanca to Brest/St. Nazaire in November 1939.

James

Afternoon everybody
Does anyone know of any system that can convert Kriegsmarine grid codes into Lat/Long? I've got copies of the maps themselves but is there a way to do this other than visually?

Hi Thorsten
Thank you so much for taking the time to look. I have been told that, where they can't be found in NARA, there may be copies held by the Bibliothek für Zeitgeschichte.
Whilst we are on the subject can you please tell me whether NARA holds similar reports for the torpedoes fired from U.53 on 18th November 1939 at vessels within convoy HG.7?
Regards
James

Good afternoon
I wonder if someone can help me with an issue close to my heart. I had tried to research this myself but I'm afraid I have run out of ideas.
My grandfather was invalided out of the RN. From my recollection of conversations this was due to his vessel being hit by a mine. But it could equally have been the result of an air raid. Certainly he received shrapnel injuries.

Gentleman
I am interested in the voyage of Convoy HG7 from Gibraltar to Liverpool between 14th and 22nd November 1939. My interest has been increased by info kindly provided by Rainer.
Big ask (nothing ventured and all that) but can anyone assist me with the following KTB? They might be large files but I am predominantly interested in war diaries covering November 1939.

Hi Rainer
Fancy seeing you here
Can I ask a) the source of this info and also b) why it would be unlikely that the convoy shadowed would be HG7? Could it have been an OG or an SL?

Morning gentleman,
New to this forum so please bear with me
Convoy HG7 was shadowed by a submarine a it sailed between Gibraltar and Brest between 14th and 21st November 1939. No losses occurred so it may not be possible to find out which boat this was but can any hazard a guess or provide any additional information?
Regards
James
