Thanks Phil, I have found very similar items and asked some dealers and a sextant expert - still unsure though. One dealer suggested it was more likely Luftwaffe, however I the instructions are clearly printed deutsche seewarte. The very similar ones I have seen are described as u-boat equipment but interested in any further ideas from those that know more.

Hi, Wondering if anyone might have some more information about the sextant I have. Made by Plath - Kreiselsextanten KS-3D, serial number 3869 printed on the box, I believe that these might have been used in U-boats for navigation to create a artificial horizon... The instructions with it are dated 1945.
