Many thanks for the reply Platon, I was just curious why the wreck had a davit rigged forward of the gun mounting as I assumed a boat would not submerge with one rigged. The fact that P36 was sunk in harbour, and may have had its davit rigged at that time was just a thought, but if the wrecks are in different locations, that rules it out. I think only a further survey, with more sophisticated e

The image of the wreck appears to show a crane like structure forward of the gun mounting, presumably the torpedo loading davit. Does anyone know if it was normal for a submarine to have the davit rigged whilst on passage or submerged? Also, is there any notification of the location of the wreck in comparison to where submarine P36 was scuttled after being refloated in 1958 at Malta?

Hello Platon and many thanks for the reply and the explanation about the footage. I was thinking that the images showed the bow section and now appreciate better what it actually is. Kind regards Jim

Hello Platon and many thanks for the reply. The footage that I was referring to was featured on a videoclip at TVM If no footage has been released of the bow, is there any indication what feature is shown around one minute forty seconds of the videoclip above? Jim

Hello Platon, yes I did contact Mr Misson to ask him what he thought of the discovery. After seeing the various videoclips on various sites, I have to agree with him that this wreck does not appear to have the same bow shape as HMS Urge. It appears to have a higher and more rounded shape, and an external torpedo tube just aft of the bow on the starboard side. Hopefully, when more underwater foota

Many thanks Platon. I was given to understand that the radio mast folded horizontally and was supported on a T shaped structure aft of the fin. I have since found out that the radio mast was telescopic and retracted into the fin, similar to a periscope housing. It will be good to see further footage of the find. Is there anything to distinguish it from the other U class boats that are still unacc

Many thanks for the reply Platon and I eagerly await the release of the extra footage of the find. In the video announcing the news of the discovery, it appears that the mast to the stern of the fin is in a horizontal position and supported on a T bar. I believe the mast on U class was shorter and secured to the casing, not horizontally, but at a much steeper angle. The image is in a report by T

Hello Platon and many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I have not seen the footage and look forward to further scenes from the ROV being made available. The original announcement did not give any dimensions for the size or the wreck and I will be interested to learn what the length of the wreck is. One of the images shows a structure protruding aft from the fin, parallel with the casing, thi

The discovery off Malta, supposedly of HMS Urge, appears to be the wreck of one of the British O, P or R Class submarines. The sonar image shows the collapsible antenna still resting on the "T" support post and the gun mounting integral with the fin of the boat, whereas the gun on the U Class was attached to the foredeck casing as a seperate gun mounting. Whilst no dimensions of the son
