On October 4th 1939, U-35 landed the 28 Greek sailors of the DIAMANTIS on the Irish shore near Ventry. (see www.U-35.com/diamantis) On October 17th 2009, the German ambassador to Ireland will unveil a plaque commemorating that event 70 years ago: Thanks to Denis Martin and the families of the Irish witnesses.

Has anybody reviewed "War of the U-Boats : British Merchantmen under Fire" by Bernard Edwards? If so, is there any reference to U-35 and/or its activities early in the war (September-October 1939)? Thanks in advance!

I'm trying to track down any British intelligence gathered about the clandestine U-Boat activities in the Netherlands (Design company IvS) as of 1922, and construction and testing in Finland as of the late 20s until 1934. Can anybody help? I'll be visiting Vesikko in Helsinki soon. Thanks in advance! Hans
