Geoffrey, et al: "U-977 - 66 days Submerged is Proven Fiction. U-977 left Bergen, Norway on 10 May and judging by the diving and DFs, seems to have sailed on the surface until the end of May. According to the US Navy version, the boat arrived in the Cape Verdes on 14 July and was therefore short on time to have made the entire trip submerged. The ORIGINAL book about the voyage was

Dan: Generally minesweepers were wooden-hulled vessels to protect them from magnetic mines, They streamed a paravane on each side of the vessel. The paravanes would cut the mine cables loose from the mine anchor and then when it popped to the surface, it was detonaded by gunfire. As the war progressed, The Allies used the forward-firing hedgehog to launch 30# rockets against u-boats.
