According to some notes I rediscovered which I thlnk are from the book "North of Galipoi". The Russian Steamer Merkury or Merkurij had 450 passengers and crew on board when she sank after hiting a mine laid by the UC 15 on 20 June 1916. Of which 178 were saved. The book "The Russian Fleet 1914-1917" lists the sinking date as 15 June 1916. One hops this is of some use.

In "Over The Front" magazine there is a translated reprint of the Nachrichtenblatt der Luftstreitkrafte (communication report of the Air Service)on page 269: A Greek Steamer which was sunk by a U-boat on 27 May (1917) while en route from New York to Bordeaux was carrying among other things, 67 airplanes and airplane engines, according to its cargo list. Thanks Michael, One of the problems with Russian ship names of the period is that there are 3 or 4 different names to spell them! The Russian Fleet and North of Galipoli by George Nekrasov do list all or most of the Russian losses/damaged/attacked ships in the Black Sea. If you know more I can wait till you post them on the WWI loss list.

In the book The Russian Fleet" by Rene Greiger it lists a number of Russian ships sunk by U-boats not mentioned on the section dealing with WW I ship losses. I realize the book dates from the 1970s and a lot more info has come out since then, but here is what I have found: Baltic: 30 Aug 15 transport No.16/Zemija sunk U26 6 Nov 15 Minesweeper No.4/Dagoe sunk U9 Black Sea: ? Sep 15 4

"Warship International" magazine should have some info on this ship write them. "Warship 2005" Has a little bit on this ship. It also has an artical on Pumping and Drainage which discusses why centerline bulkheads like the San Diego had are not a good idea. They cause the ships to capsize when hit by mines or torpedos as what happened to this ship. Finally, E Keble Chatterto

42. U14
The book "Wielding the Dagger" Mark D Karau, which I just got, has the U14 damaged on 12 Feb 1915 by the Zeebrugge mole by air attack. There was a 34 plane RNAS raid on German naval and air bases this day so it looks like one of them hit her.

44. U14
The book "The Dover Patrol 1914-1918" has the submarine U14 damaged by air attack at Zeebrugge in 1915. Did this happen? and if so what date. I think it could be either on 12 or 16 Feb 1915 when the RNAS bombed the port. Thanks in advance.

I have some more to add on the sinking of this ship. Recently, in "Warship 2005" I read the reason why this ship capsized and sank so quickly is because it had a centerline bulkhead. This is the reason why many of the RN battleships and cruisers also capsized after being hit by torpedos or mines during WW I.

Which U-boats ect sank the following ships 15.2.16 Wilston 28.11.16 Lady of the Lake 15.12.16 Naiad 15.12.16 Constance 26.
